As we are getting closer to the finale things are getting heated and the prospects for Ashley’s future with JP do not appear very bright. Note: of course, if we assume that Reality Steve’s spoiler about Ashley’s engagement to JP Rosenbaum is altogether correct. Let’s examine some aspects of Ashley’s hometown date with JP. Overall, they appeared to have the best connection: there was good flow between them, affection, kissing, body contact, etc – all the right chemistry. On the surface, Ashley’s meeting with JP’s parents appeared to go well. They were friendly, open and receptive.
During some private time with her son, JP’s mom asked him a direct question: “Are you in love with her?” JP replied there were a lot of signs pointing toward it.
Nahu: Personally, my impression is that JP was actually chomping at the bit to get into her but didn’t want to be seen as impulsive in front of his mother who was concerned about his vulnerability after his recent loss. JP’s fire was up and he was ready to go. The following remark by JP reveals his excitement.
JP: “I don’t think I’m going to get my heart broken. I really don’t. She and I have something that I really don’t think she has with any other — I know she doesn’t have with any of the other guys.”
Nahu: You can see in the next remark that he held his enthusiasm back and tried to give the impression that he was in control:
When JP’s mother asked her son whether he will propose to Ashley, JP replied, “If I feel it? Yeah.”
While talking to his brother Roy, JP once again acts confident and cocky as if he has no doubts about being Ashley’s final suitor. He says he’s ready for the show to end right now so that he can begin a real relationship with Ashley.
Nahu: But then, there is a change of energy in the next episode:
In the preview of the next episode we saw Ashley and JP having a picnic on the beach. Suddenly, Ashley asked JP if he felt he knew her enough to get engaged right there. JP responded, “Do I see myself proposing, like, right now? No.” Do you see the switch I am talking about?
Nahu: I feel that there is a personality clash about to take place between the two. In the beginning, JP was shy and reserved, apparently lacking confidence. In episode 9, he suddenly appears resistant to being led. The change seems to come from the fact that he resented Ashley’s direct approach. Ashley has changed personalities – in the beginning she was on her best behavior, sweet, innocent, demure. Now, she’s become shaky, unsure of herself, indecisive, ready to jump at any chance to find love; even a little bit demanding. There’s a definite personality entanglement here – when she’s pushy, he’s resistant; when he’s ready she isn’t sure.
This behavior definitely is a portent, an omen of bad things to come.
Chris Harrison shared some interesting thoughts in an interview with TV Guide:
Chris: Right now if you had to rank them, you’d start with J.P. … but I will say the exotic dates really change that. There are some bumpy roads ahead for J.P. and Ashley. I don’t know the whole story [about his ex], but apparently he was devastated. For your mom to say, “I don’t want to see you like that again,” he must’ve been a mess. I think you saw Ashley a bit taken back about how serious he was with the last girlfriend and that put some question marks in Ashley’s mind. I don’t think J.P. is completely ready to let go yet and all of that really comes to a head next week.
After watching this season, specifically Ashley’s obsession with Bentley, JP may have similar questions for Ashley. Furthermore, Chris Harrison suggests that Ashley’s overnight date with JP is not going to go as smooth as we all expect it. Not a good start for a relationship. I think my first prediction is making a full circle…
